Last Updated: Feb 26, 2026
42apps LLC ("us", "we", or "our") operates the Whynote application. This Privacy Policy describes how Whynote collects, uses, shares, and protects user information obtained through the Whynote application (the "App"). By using the App, you understand and agree to the collection, storage, processing, and use of your data in accordance with this Privacy Policy.
1. Information We Collect
We may collect the following types of information:
1.1 Personal Information
This refers to data that you voluntarily provide to us, which identifies you personally. This includes your name and email address; it may also include other personal and preference information you provide.
1.2 Non-Personal Information
We may collect data in a form that does not permit direct association with any specific individual. This information includes task name, task date and time, and category.
1.3 Information from Third Parties
We may receive information about you from third-party analytics providers, such as Amplitude, Firebase, Appsflyer, Facebook SDK, and Apphud. This information may include usage details, geographic location, and demographic information.
1.4 Information from Google Account
When you sign in with Google, we collect:
- Your name and email address (via Google's OpenID Connect)
- Your Google Calendar events (read-only access), including event titles, start and end times, locations, and meeting links
We request the following Google OAuth scopes:
- openid, email, profile — for account identification
- calendar.readonly — for reading calendar events (we never create, modify, or delete calendar data)
2. Use of Collected Information
We use the information we collect to provide, maintain, protect, and improve our App, to develop new services, and to protect us and our users.
2.1 Push Notifications
With your consent, we may send you push notifications, including marketing updates, reminders, and motivational messages to help you stay on track with your goals.
2.2 GPT API
We use the OpenAI GPT API to enhance the transcription and summarization features within the app. The audio data you provide, such as recorded lectures or voice notes, may be processed by the GPT API to generate accurate transcriptions, summaries, quizzes, and flashcards for your study needs.
2.3 Google Calendar Data
Whynote reads your upcoming Google Calendar events to automatically detect meetings and suggest recording and transcription. Calendar event data is processed locally on your device to display your meeting schedule and auto-name meeting recordings. Calendar data is not permanently stored on our servers.
3. Information Sharing and Disclosure
We do not sell your personal information to third parties. However, we may share your personal information with third parties as described in this policy.
3.1 Service Providers and Business Partners
We may use third-party companies and individuals to facilitate our service (e.g., maintenance services, database management, web analytics, and payment processing), or to assist us in analyzing how our service is used. These third parties may have access to your Personal Information but only to perform these tasks on our behalf.
3.2 Google Account Data
We do not sell, share, or transfer your Google Calendar data to any third parties. Your calendar data is used exclusively within the Whynote app on your device for meeting detection and display purposes.
Whynote's use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
4. Security
We are committed to ensuring that your information is secure. We have implemented measures and procedures to prevent unauthorized access, use, alteration, and disclosure of your information. Despite these measures, the Internet is not a fully secure environment and we cannot guarantee that your personal information will not be disclosed, destroyed, altered, or accessed in an unauthorized manner.
5. Data Storage and Deletion
5.1 Google Account Data
Google authentication tokens are stored securely in the macOS Keychain (encrypted system storage). Calendar data is processed in memory and is not permanently stored.
You can disconnect your Google account from Whynote at any time through the app settings. This will remove all stored authentication tokens from your device and stop access to your Google Calendar. You can also revoke Whynote's access through your Google Account permissions.
6. Children's Privacy
Our App is not intended for use by children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we discover that a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, we will delete such information from our servers immediately.
7. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page. You are advised to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes.
8. Your Consent
By using the App, you signify your acceptance of this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree to this Privacy Policy, you should not use our App. Your continued use of the App following the posting of changes to this policy will be deemed your acceptance of those changes.
